Thinking about the New Jerusalem

  • 10 June 2017

Last night, I was listening to The Hoppers sing “Jerusalem.” My heart once again welled up in prayer: Lord, help me to be faithful! I long to run those streets of gold and to see His face but I know that the only way to reach that goal is to endure to the end (Matthew 10:22). I can relate to how Horatio Spafford felt when he said:

And, Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll

I look forward to the day that God takes me Home but I cannot sit around and pine for that day. I must do the work that God has called me to do. And, yet, it is easy to become weary in spite of the fact that we are told not to (Galatians 6:9).

This life can be tiring. You may be discouraged because things are not going your way. You may feel like everything and everyone is against you. Just remember that, if this life were easy, you would forget what you have to look forward to. This world is not our Home. We really are just passing through. One day, you will fall asleep, cares of this world all forgotten. I pray that, when you wake up, you find yourself in the arms of your Savior. What a day that will be!

(Lyrics from “It is Well” by Horatio G. Spafford.)
