CD Review: After All This Time (The Talleys)

  • Posted on September 17, 2016 at 12:08 pm

With this CD, the Talleys are celebrating 20 years of ministry as Roger, Debra, and Lauren. Their harmony and their lyrics are as strong as always.

It’s fitting that the CD is titled After All This Time. Throughout the years, God has not stopped being faithful.

There is Coming a Day talks about that day that we all wait for. Keep looking up. Our redemption draws nigh.

There’s Never Been a Mountain is a song of encouragement, reminding us that God is still in control.

Debra Talley sings What is This Thing Called Grace?

If you have listened to the Talleys as long as I have, you’ll remember a song they recorded in the ’80s called simply Naaman. Well, they’ve brought it back for this CD. It’s a very different song but a good message. I love the line that says “Power comes from doing what God says.”

Lauren sings lead on Jesus’ Blood is Enough. You don’t need anything else but Jesus.

The tempo speeds up with My Hope is in the Lord.

But I Need You More is a song of worship, telling the Lord how much we need Him. Nothing compares to him.

The People in the Line is a reminder to not be so focused on ourselves that we fail to see the needs around us.

Somebody’s Story is a song about being slow to judge because you don’t always know somebody’s story.

Lauren is featured in the old song, Who But God.

The CD ends with a medley of I Love to Tell the Story and Blessed Assurance.

CD Review: Undivided (Master’s Voice)

I just became aware of Master’s Voice a couple months ago. Their CD is a mixture of OK lyrics to really good ones but the good ones are worth listening to. A variety of songwriters contributed to this CD but of special note are Joseph Habedank and Daryl Williams.

The songs I like are:

How Long a Lifetime Is – written by Joseph Habedank and Rachel McCutcheon. I often think of this concept. Life is so short. You never know when this will be the last time you see someone. Please don’t take today for granted.

Here I Am Again – How many times have you had to go to the Lord and ask forgiveness? Maybe for something you thought you had victory over but yet had reared its ugly head once again. I’m so thankful we serve a loving and merciful God!

Somebody is Me – an uptempo, toe-tapping song of testimony. I love it!

The tempo slows down for This Same Jesus, a song of reminder that this same Jesus that ascended up to Heaven will come back again.

Other songs included are:

I Can Hardly Wait to Fly, Goodbye to Goodbye, Lord of Mercy, I Know What He Did For Me, Things God Doesn’t Know, Send Somebody, Ain’t it Good, and Everything the Blood Touches Lives.

CD Review: What a Moment (11th Hour)

  • Posted on February 22, 2016 at 8:33 pm

what-a-momentThe latest CD from 11th Hour is my introduction to them. My first impression is that they are an average group, but I know sometimes it makes a difference when one sees them in concert.

This CD begins by reminding us that we need that “sea walking, Mountain Moving Faith.”

Look at Me Now is a couple stories of people who were changed after they met Jesus.

The tempo slows down for Love Still Holds Our Scars.

You may have been Bound for destruction and hell but, if you know Jesus, you are now Bound for Heaven. Praise the Lord!

He Welcomes the Beggar talks about the beggar Lazarus and then talks to modern-day “beggars” who are looking for hope.

Aren’t you glad that He’s Alive and So Am I?

My favorite song on the CD is When God Shows Up. Written by Dianne Wilkinson, Kenna West, and Lee Black, you will feel God show up as you worship Him.

Can You Burn asks if you can stand through the fire when persecution comes. Can you burn with the zeal you used to have? This is something we must all ask ourselves.

There Ain’t No Bones in the grave where Jesus laid. He’s alive!

Another song I really like is I Trust. Trust is an area I pray to keep growing in.

CD Review: Threads of Mercy (Ivan Parker)

This latest release from Ivan Parker is full of good songs and quality background vocals from Chris Allman, Lauren Talley Alvey, Roger Talley, Reggie & Ladye Love Smith.

Til the Shackles Fall Off is a song about praising God continually no matter what you are going through.

God’s in the Middle of It is a song of encouragement. No matter what you are going through, God truly is in the middle of it.

Jim Brady wrote Don’t Hang Your Head and Cry. Another song of encouragement for those who are going through trials.

Silent Prayer is a slow story in song. The first verse talks about a man who was born deaf who came to know the Savior. “Though he cannot speak a word, he always knows that he is heard.” How beautiful! You do not need to shout to be heard. Just whisper His name, and He is right there.

Sue C. Smith wrote, When Heaven Shakes the House, a song about true revival. “Lives are changed; souls are saved; you know what I’m talking about.”

How do you know grace, peace, love, etc.? Kenna West, Lee Black, and Cliff Duren tells how in This Is How We Know.

Kenna West co-wrote On the Solid Rock I Stand with Gerald Crabb and Don Poythress. There is nothing to worry about when you’re standing on the solid rock.

He Touched Me is a song most everyone is familiar with. I like the piano on this song.

Wings is a song about getting my wings to leave this earth.

The CD ends with the slow, How Much Longer. This is a plea to those who are waiting to say Yes to Jesus. “How much longer will you wait?” Please don’t wait until it is too late.
